I went to the website straightaway... hehe.. gatal tangan.. I saw this category "Charity Home Drive". Charity begins at home, let us do something for the less fortunate. I'm not sure what got into me, but I just feel like clicking it. Over-online shopping kali, so better do some charity. And so I did...my donation through Mydin. You can choose alot of stuffs there, macam Mydin supermarket la...

I chose softener and stabilo stationery set with the total RM11.80 plus poslaju delivery RM10.60. You can choose which charity home for donation from the list. They offer several payment method either by paypal, credit card or cash payment at the post office counter. That's my good deed for today. Ok la tu kan...

Stop, you are on candid camera

Just in case, any of you who haven't read the news of 'snatch thieves motorists'.... read it. It's very sad and scary to know this kind of incident happen all the time to anyone. They, the thieves will aim at female driver who normally drives alone. So, ladies....becareful and remember don't put personal belongings, laptop or handbag at the passenger seat beside or behind. It's very dangerous.

Extracted from the article

"WE all seem to know someone or someone who knows someone who has been a victim of a smash-and-snatch theft..."

True enough, the same case happened to my friend few years back. She was shocked as it happened soo fast but luckily, she's unhurt and manage to grabbed her handbag that time, but window was broken. No one will /can help you as you're on the road and in the car either in the queue or waiting at a traffic light.

Coconut Body Polish, Coffee Body Scrub and the DIY

>> Saturday, April 16, 2011

Coconut body polish by Ramuanspa has a very nice fragrance of coconut. I like it. In the instruction, it's recommended to use this after a scrub to polish your body and give it a radiant glow. Being lazy, I only use it when I remember to but the result was great. It's like having a coconut milk bath feeling and your skin will smell nice after shower beside leaving the skin soft. I bought it only at RM4.90; can be used several times.

Coconut Body Polish
Ramuan’s Coconut Body Polish helps rejuvenate the mind, body and soul with its soothing, fragrant blend of coconut and pandanus leaf. It leaves skin feeling refreshed with a radiant glow.

Ingredients : Coconut powder,  Rice powder and Pandan leaf extract

Coffee grounds helps in exfoliating our dead skin and reduce the size of the pores. It will also firm and tone our skin, leaving our skin soft and moisturized after shower. Coffee is one of the common natural sources of caffeine. Caffeine has been reported to be a great stimulant and effective in cellulite treatment (minimizing cellulite appearance) and also varicose veins.

After finishing my Ramuanspa coffee scrub, I did a DIY coffee body scrub (read below for more).  The ramuanspa coffee scrub is in powder form and you just mix it with water to make paste. Apply it on your body in circular motion and leave it for a while - few minutes. Rinse it off. You'll get a refreshing feeling with soft skin. Worth the try and it's only RM4.90 when I bought it. It can last for 2-3 times usage depending on the amount you use.

Malaysian Coffee Scrub

A delicious and fragrant blend of coffee, native cocoa, and cinnamon, Ramuan’s Malaysian Coffee Scrub reveals enhanced skin freshness, while gently exfoliating and stimulating circulation. This traditional mix of Malaysian ingredients enlivens the body and mind, while leaving skin feeling fresh and radiant.
Ingredients : Coffee arabica (coffee) powder, oryza sativa (rice) powder, theobroma cacao (cocoa) powder, oryza sativa var. glutinosa (white and black glutinous rice), citrus hystrix (kaffir lime) powder, cinnamomum cassia (cinnamon) powder.

source : ramuanspa

DIY Coffee Body Scrub
Got the recipe from ehow and care2

I modified some because I don't have olive oil , avocado oil or any other essential oil so I used my Palmer's skin therapy oil.

Ingredients :
2 cups of ground coffee
1/2 cup of brown sugar
1 teaspoon of honey
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract (for fragrance)
3 teaspoon of skin oil therapy

Mix all ingredients. You can add cinnamon too if you want. Apply it on your wet body. You can use warm water to  moisten your skin and open up the pores. Rub with hands or using loofah mitt in circular motion on your body. I rinsed it off followed with a body cleanser because the coffee 'stains' on the skin were quite strong (or maybe I put too much?). I became abit 'tanned' after that.

As what happened to me, it was a mess in the shower. So, prepare for the messiness and coffee colour everywhere. Just make sure to clean the shower area after 'coffee' bath. It's worth it in the end with a soft moisturized skin. I read reviews that it really helps in reducing cellulite appearance but you have to stick to this routine and be patient.

Try it out! Good Luck  :)

Sliced Pork with Spring Onion and Ginger Rice

>> Friday, April 15, 2011

I'm not sure if it's normal to cook this kind of dish or not but it tasted nice. I bought ginger paste the other day (for all you ginger lovers but are lazy to cut and peel ginger....solution: ginger paste! yeay...haha) and use it to cook together with basmati rice (basmati rice are longer, not sticky, soft and has a 'medium' glycemic index (56 and 69), suitable for diabetics)). I just wanna add something to the rice although basmati rice itself has its fragrance. Anyway, it tasted nice... The colour reminded me of nasi ayam (chicken rice). Oh, this is also a steam rice since I don't have a rice cooker :( , guess how it's cook? Tadaa in a cooking pot.. Credits to my creative friend.

Have you ever had this feeling where you wish that you could change all your friends list (like the 'recycle' option in UNO spin game; where if you spin and get recycle, you must renew all the cards in hand) what a comparison.. hehe.. Yeah, something like that. Just change, just like that. Well, even if there's such option I'm not even sure whether it will do good or not. Anyway, I had a good time with such lovely friends at Times Sq today. Laughing, eating, shopping and laughing...

Fake Eggs at Pulau Tikus create 4D Egg-citement

>> Saturday, April 9, 2011

I read star news with the article title fakes create 4D egg-citement. I'm not sure what happen to me but when I read the title I was thinking a fake 4D movie is out 'with excitement' ... Then I read the whole article, scrolling down. This word chifa were repeated several times then some numbers came out. I thought they were relating the eggs with some fengshui thingy (gosh...punya budu sy..) but I still am not sure what I was reading. Re-read lagi... rupa-rupanya... it's to buy 4D numbers. S.l.o.w. oh me... brain not catching up maybe..

and "A chifa book is a small book which co-relates numbers to certain objects and actions. It is also available online on the four-digit operators' websites"

and suddenly, I teringat sportstoto lottery! Found out that the Mega Toto 6/52 prize had been swept away by a retiree from Malacca with RM17.7 million. The winning number were 10,11,12,15,23 and 29.

Eh, I was talking 'bout fake eggs right? There are articles about how to detect fake eggs and all that... but I was wondering how to detect if boiled already? Base on colour or texture? because they look the same for people like me :p

Now, we have TELUR TULIN and PALSU oredi...

I found another site (chinahush.com) with detailed description about fake eggs, how to identify the fake and real, the procedure to make fake eggs and the ingredients as well...China oh China, why oh why...

If the fake eggs are used for salted eggs and pei dan production, can we still detect the authenticity of the egg?

Nail Polish : Zoya Uma #370 Swatch

My first Zoya! Yeay...I like this colour. Suits me as I find it very hard to blend any pinkish colour on me. But this is more like near-nude-pink that blends in with my nail and skin colour. Two coats were used without top coat. Didn't get to prep my nail as you can see. Room lighting wasn't good (plus messy background) and pic taken with hp cam (flash on). The nail polish bottle is like below

Zoya Uma 370 Nail Polish / Lacquer / Enamel

Try this colour if you don't like daring colours or a beginner nail polish user. Good quality. My fav!

Cheers!

The conspiracy : sleep deprivation, stress and fatness

>> Friday, April 8, 2011

This is a story between three friends with different characters. Their name are Ah Sleep, Ah Stress and Ah Fat. Kiddin! I'm definitely having lack of sleep but can't cover back the loss and here I am with une tasse de café; infront of the monitor screen, telling you... never follow this bad habit. Hehe... Don't consume caffeine too much, not at night, if you insist make it a cup per day (preferably morning). Am I addicted? Oh non!

I've been reading few articles here and there about sleep deprivation and how important it is to get enough sleep especially for those under 40. I read before somewhere in Reader's Digest about 'sleep less, gain weight'. Let's see what I've found.

Why sleep is important? Few reasons out of many that lack of sleep caused
  • Affect ability to do a good job at work
  • Poor performance in school
  • Sleep-deprived people don't realize how impaired they are
  • Poor sleep can make you fat
  • Less sleep = more depression and suicidal thoughts in teens
  • Sleep deprivation might lead to higher blood pressure
  • Lack of sleep can't be repaired in just one night
Some interesting findings and researches
  • People who slept 4 hours or less per night are 73% more likely to be obese (at risk)
  • Those who got only 5 hours of sleep are at 50% more likely to be obese than those getting full night's rest
  • Those who got 6 hours of sleep were 23% more likely to be substantially overweight
Supposed when you sleep less, you burn more calories (more activities or movement or energy used?). But not, it is something that your body reacted when you deprive it of sleep. When you stay awake longer, you are more likely to snack more. It is not by that simple saying that sleep deprivation causes fatness or more eating, but scientific research showed evidence that there's a link between sleep and various neural pathways that regulate food intake.

There's a study concluded that lack of sleep can cause dangerous fat build up around your internal organs. This is worse for people under 40 that get less than 5 hours of sleep each night than it is for people above that age. Increase of visceral fat (belly fat) also observed in people that got over 8 hours of sleep per night. For those above 40, it is said that there's no correlation between sleep duration and belly fat.

Not getting enough quality sleep, causes rise in hormones that increase appetite, while also decreasing hormone levels that make you feel full. These two hormones - ghrelin and leptin. Previous findings had shown that sleep deprivation was linked to decrease level of hormone leptin, which regulates appetite and weight and tells the brain how much energy is available in the body. Levels of the hormone grehlin, which makes people want to eat, have also been seen to increase in people who are sleep-deprived.  Being stressed, also can affect sleep patterns and is known to affect hormone levels as well. Chronic stress affect between cortisol production (stress hormone), insulin resistance and leptin resistance; all of which triggers weight gain and many health problems.

Different people give different body response to stress (cortisol production). People who secrete higher levels of cortisol in response to stress also tend to eat more food that is higher in carbohydrates than people who secrete less cortisol. Another tip to unlock leptin hormone, avoid diet and junk foods but increase natural foods with natural spices and herbs.

Hope this info about getting enough sleep gives you some idea about the interaction between sleep and weight gain. So, go get your sleep now! I think hormone ghrelin just 'called' me. Hehe.

Boutique Cupcakes at Lintas Plaza, Kota Kinabalu

>> Wednesday, April 6, 2011

Finally, cupcakes cupcakes in Kota Kinabalu at Lintas Plaza (the place where big cars park whichever style they like? hehe...)

From left to right - Green with Envy, Mocha Shot, Chocolate Madness (RM5 each)

Green with Envy - Green tea cupcake filled with red bean paste and topped off with green tea and whipped cream frosting

Mocha Shot - Mocha cupcake topped with mocha buttercream frosting and chocolate chips

Chocolate Madness - Chocolate cupcake topped with rich chocolate ganache frosting swirled on top

My fav out of the three would be the green tea because of the light taste I guess. The buttercream frosting of mocha shot turned out like over-creamy or maybe I was too full that day. Hehe... The chocolate is just nice although I was expecting to 'go mad' after eating it. They gave a free testing of their home-made chocolate when I went there. The chocolate was nice!

Overall, nice cupcakes and pretty designs. It's worth for the price I guess since it's a normal 'muffin' size and I can't finish one alone. I hope boutique cupcakes can make mini cupcakes, it will be great for customers like me who would like to try out all the flavours. :) Ooh, I found out they have website and you can do online purchase of the cupcakes...Nyummy! (Oh, I just saw that actually you need to pickup the cupcakes within 2 hours after order online. For delivery, min is 50 cupcakes). Check out their site myboutiquecupcakes. There's another cupcake shop there I have yet to try. Hopefully, next time.

Hola Bodega

La Bodega’s Dining Room offers modern and heartier Spanish dishes.
By ALICE CHING

The Dining Room @ La Bodega
16 Jalan Telawi 2
Bangsar Baru
59100 Kuala Lumpur
Tel: (03) 2287 0851
Pork-free

Ask any KL-lite where to go for tapas and they will inevitably tell you La Bodega. This is hardly surprising since the outlet was responsible for pioneering the craze for these Spanish hors d’oeuvres among the city’s trendy set when it opened in 1999.
Everything Spanish: The Dining Room’s red interior is reminiscent of sunny Spain.
As the flag-bearer of modern Spanish cuisine in Kuala Lumpur, The Dining Room @ La Bodega’s participation in the Malaysian International Gourmet Festival (MIGF) 2007 has certainly generated oeuvres excitement among discerning diners in the Klang Valley.
According to PR and marketing manager Mel Anselm, The Dining Room was opened in 2000 to complement La Bodega’s tapas bar concept.
Ensconced behind plush velvet drapes next to La Bodega’s bustling bar, The Dining Room has an aura of quiet sophistication about it.
Its brightly painted walls in red and brown tones, polished timber flooring, banquette seating and muted lighting capture the unmistakable vibrancy of sunny Spain.
”The Dining Room offers tapas and heartier Spanish dishes,” said Anselm.
The kitchen team is headed by Swiss-trained Chef Gordon Freddy Boyong who cited his father as an inspiration to his passion for the culinary arts.
Chocolate citrus tart with caramelised pink grapefruit and macadamia ice cream.
Prior to his return to Malaysia, the boyish Sabahan had worked for several years in fine-dining restaurants in Denmark.
He said: “My philosophy is to keep an open mind when it comes to food. Although I’m partial to French cooking, I also like Italian and Scandinavian cuisine. I constantly learn, observe and absorb as much as I can.
“I believe in sharing knowledge and ideas with my team. There’s nothing more satisfying than knowing customers love and appreciate the dishes we prepared for them.”
To mark The Dining Room’s maiden appearance in MIGF, Chef Boyong has planned a special Degustation Menu. The starter of Foie Gras Espuma on Toasted Ciabatta comprises rich goose liver transformed into a frothy-creamy mass (hence meaning ‘espuma’ – in Portuguese which is foamy crest of waves). This is aptly paired with a glass of Moscatel Oro, Torres, Penedès, NV.
Turning the flavour stakes up several notches is the daintily presented Grilled Sardines with Mojo Picón and Parmesan Ring.
Grilled sardines with mojo picon and parmesan rings.
The fish’s charred smokiness is reminiscent of local ikan bakar but instead of sambal, it is enlivened by a piquant sauce of red picona pepper, garlic, oil and vinegar which is atypical in the Spanish Canary Island. The thin circular Parmesan cheese ring adds crunch and a distinct brininess.
Another Catalan dish is Button Mushrooms Stuffed with Lamb Confit. Complemented by a glass of Gran Viña Sol, Chardonnay, Penedès, Torres 2005, the wine’s refreshing crispness will leave you hankering for more.
Just when you think things cannot get any better, the Linguini with Crab Meat in Asparagus Cream Sauce succeeds in raising the bar. Despite its creamy taste, the blanched asparagus helps to lessen the guilt trip.
The tender and juicy Grilled Rack of Lamb with Vegetable Terrine and Spicy Beetroot Chutney scores brownie points with those who like lamb. Tantalising bursts of sharp flavours come from the tiny yellow mustard seeds in the rich, dark sauce.
Rounding off is a heavenly dessert of Chocolate Citrus Tart with Caramelised Pink Grapefruit and Macadamia Ice Cream with coffee or tea. The smooth, velvety chocolate is to-die-for. The pink grapefruit’s subtle tartness and nutty ice cream lend balance to this seductive treat.

The Dining Room@La Bodega’s MIGF Degustation Menu is available until end Nov 2007 at RM175++ per person (inclusive of matching wines) and RM125++ (food only).

XBOX 360 S Kinect

>> Monday, April 4, 2011

Ooh, look who's addicted (dreaming) to XboX 360 now... I first heard about Xbox game when they first launched Xbox back in 2001. I knew new game console will be expensive so, I never follow the updates of xbox... :( Let's explore the xbox history if you're new like me.

Xbox is a sixth-generation video game console by Microsoft. It was Microsoft's first product that ventured into the video game console market. Xbox was discontinued on 2006.

Then comes, Xbox 360 (released in 2005), the second video game console by Microsoft also the successor of Xbox. Xbox 360 is part of the seventh generation of video game consoles competing with Sony's PS3 and Nintendo's Wii.

Brief summary of the models (first to current) :
  • Xbox 360 package (known as 20GB Pro or Premium)
  • Xbox 360 core
  • Elite Package (discontinued in June 2010)
  • Xbox 360 Arcade (discontinued in June 2010)
  • Xbox 360 Pro (60GB version) (discontinued on Aug, 2009)

June 2010, Microsoft announced a new, redesigned model which is
  • Xbox 360 S

So,Elite, Arcade, Pro and Core were discontinued and now in production is the S Model.

Current models of Xbox 360 S :

This is Xbox 360 S 250 GB (June 14,2010 for $299.99)
Storage : 250 GB HDD
HDMI : Yes
Appearance : Gloss Black, Gloss Black Disc Drive
Accessories/Bundled Items : Wireless controller, Wired Headset, Composite AV Cable

This is Xbox 360 4GB Console (Aug 3,2010 for $199.99)

Storage : 4 GB onboard
HDMI : Yes
Appearance : Matte Black, Matte Black Disc Drive
Accessories/Bundled Items : Wireless controller, Composite AV Cable

What is actually Xbox 360 and Xbox 360 Kinect? Any difference?

No different. Kinect is actually a "controller-free gaming and entertainment experience" for the Xbox 360 (announced on June, 2009). This add-on enable users to control and interact with Xbox 360 without a game controller by using gestures, spoken commands, and presented objects and images. It's compatible with all Xbox 360 models.

Xbox 360 250GB Console with Kinect

Microsoft stated that Kinect sold about 8 millions in the first 60 days on market. The Xbox 360's life span will last until 2015 according to Microsoft, doubling the life span of original Xbox.

source : XboxXbox 360

I've played the sports arcade and guitar hero...and look what I've found... Dance Central.

Product Features :
  • Immersive dance video game that features and tracks full-body dance moves
  • Completely free from any controller, every routine has authentic choreography for beginners and experts alike to master
  • A killer soundtrack that spans today's current pop, hip-hop and R&B artists

Eee..the price in amazon is cheaper than the price in the shops here. Now, now you really need to try Xbox 360 S Kinect! :)

It can be confusing as to which bundle should you choose when you plan to buy xbox 360. I read somewhere that you can look at these criteria - storage space, style, kinect port and built in wifi. Choose which you prefer more. Eg - Storage 4 GB has sleek design but matte finish and 250 GB has more storage space but glossy.
