I'm not sure is it because we were hungry or what but the food were delicious. Tom yam soup has just the right taste, dumplings were huge and fried sotong was crispy. Nyum nyum...

My friends and I bought the El Mesón coupon deal from dealmates. The offer includes "A Spanish Feast! Get a Platter of Cold Cuts + Quarter Suckling Pig + Paella Valenciana for Two at Only RM70 Instead of RM180 at El Mesón Espanol in Bangsar. (Note: This Feast Can Feed 2-3 Pax!)" We ordered desserts; creme brulee, affogato and chocolate molten lava (yummay!). Enjoy some pics below. Didn't get to snap a close-up pic of the food because we were overjoyed with the wonderful dishes. Overall, nice ambience, good service and great food.

Sliced Pork with Spring Onion and Ginger Rice

>> Friday, April 15, 2011

I'm not sure if it's normal to cook this kind of dish or not but it tasted nice. I bought ginger paste the other day (for all you ginger lovers but are lazy to cut and peel ginger....solution: ginger paste! yeay...haha) and use it to cook together with basmati rice (basmati rice are longer, not sticky, soft and has a 'medium' glycemic index (56 and 69), suitable for diabetics)). I just wanna add something to the rice although basmati rice itself has its fragrance. Anyway, it tasted nice... The colour reminded me of nasi ayam (chicken rice). Oh, this is also a steam rice since I don't have a rice cooker :( , guess how it's cook? Tadaa in a cooking pot.. Credits to my creative friend.

KFC Egg Tart

>> Saturday, April 2, 2011

Have you tried them? How egglicious is the KFC Egg Tart? Said to be delicious, fresh, hot, tasty, sweet...

I was expecting it to be hawt! but not... :(  *contents may be hot* May be only, I bought at two different places, also not hot... but the base was crunchy like those type of danish pastry. The filling is quite nice and thick like creamy? It tasted like portuguese egg tart. Selling for RM1.90. Okay la...

Broccoli with Sautéed Beef and Garlic

>> Saturday, March 12, 2011

Easy recipe, you can cook at home yourself. Tadaa...Broccoli with Sauteed beef and garlic. Sautéing is similar to stir-fry that uses a small amount of oil over relatively high heat. All ingredients are cooked at once and quickly.

Simple Ingredients :
Broccoli
Sliced beef
Finely Chopped Garlic
Half Onion
Olive Oil (or Cooking Oil)
Oyster Sauce

Beef : Cut thin slices. Marinate it for few minutes (if you are rushing like me). I normally just dump in, a pinch of salt, soy sauce, garlic, onion, ginger (you can opt this out), two tablespoons of water. I'm not sure why, but I somehow have this thought by doing that, the meat will absorb the taste of the ingredients and will taste better.

Broccoli : Blanch the broccoli, throw them in boiling water for few minutes - 2mins. Take out the broccoli and place them in ice water. Blanch means dip the food in boiling water, remove and put in ice water. This is to set the bright colour of the vege and also to preserve the crisp texture (it's not entirely cook yet). Blanch method can be used for asparagus too.

Saute : Two drops of olive oil, put in finely chopped garlic and onion. Stir-fry. Put sliced beef. Add 2-3 spoons of water. Put broccoli in. Cook for roughly 5 minutes depend on how tender crisp or soft you want it (the broccoli). Mix 1 spoon of oyster sauce (your preference).

Voila! Done. Easy huh? Simple and healthy home-cooked dish. (and Fast...)

Healthy Note : Health benefits of broccoli
  • Broccoli - rich in nutrients
  • Vitamin C, Vitamin A (beta-carotene) - important antioxidants
  • Folic acid, Calcium (great source for those who don't consume dairy products)
  • Linked to lower rates of cancer with two important phytochemicals (indoles and isothiocyanates). An isothiocyanate, called sulforaphane increases the activity of a group of enzymes in our body that suppress cancer-causing agents; strong in anticancer activity
  • Speeds up the removal of estrogen from the body, helping suppress breast cancer.
  • Rich in cholesterol-reducing fiber
  • Super source of chromium that helps regulate insulin and bloodsugar

Enjoy cooking!

Country Farm Organic, Bangsar Village I

>> Wednesday, March 9, 2011

Organic food are becoming popular as more people are health conscious nowadays and worry about the health and the safety of the food they eat.

A lil' bit info of what is exactly organic food?

Organic foods are those that are produced using environmentally sound methods that do not involve modern synthetic inputs such as pesticides and chemical fertilizers, do not contain genetically modified organisms, and are not processed using irradiation, industrial solvents, or chemical food additives

Organic food are processed from organic farming. Foods that claimed to be organic must be free of artificial food additives, and are often processed with fewer artificial methods, materials and conditions, such as chemical ripening, food irradiation, and genetically modified ingredients. (wiki)

Some reports said the content, nutritional value of organic food compare to non-organic food doesn't differ much but some said it was significantly different. It's also said that organic food contain higher vitamin C and consuming it in long-run is good for our health. Nevertheless, it's up to consumer to make their choices on consuming organic food or not as sometimes (I think) organic food has been somewhat overhyped and hence, make it expensive than the price it should cost.

If you want to find a place that serves organic food, you might want to try Country Farm Organics at Bangsar Village I. There's a promotion now where you can get Tilapia fish, Patin fish or prawns for only RM12 when you buy any of the ala-carte meal. There are four type of flavours offered, Assam (pedas), steam, tom yum and deep fried. I chose tilapia fish assam pedas and it is really pedas to me and the fish is big, I can't finish alone. In their menu, details of the dish is given (ie: ingredients, organic percentage, suitable for which type of vegetarian) and even some nutrition note of the dish. We ordered iron lady spinach, wholesome 8-booster and simply red for takeaway. So, didn't get to snap the pic.

Iron Lady Spinach Salad (seasonal) RM17.90 (90% organic)
Calorie for calorie, leafy green Organic Spinach, with its delicate texture and jade green colour, provides more nutrients than any other food. This salad has so much flavour that the only dressing you'll need is a drizzle of Balsamic Vinegar. 8-Booster Rojak, RM11.90 (99% organic). This is a good information as an additional knowledge for us for the nutrition value.
A Malaysian favourite that you will not want to miss! Organic fruits and vegetables served with Blackstrap Molasses and Country Farms specially blended 3-boosters. (Nutritional Yeast, Lecithin Granules, Wheat Germ, Brewer Yeast). This is definitely the most nutritious Rojak in Malaysia. Nutrition Note : Blackstrap Molasses are very rich in iron, calcium, potassium and magnesium. They are especially helpful for those who suffer from iron-deficiency and anemia.

Simply Red (New) RM18.50, is a small cup juice. So, don't expect a large glass like those in fruit juice stall.
A refreshing blend of organic fruits bursting with antioxidants! Organic fruits : Apple, Orange, Beetroot, Lemon and Carrot.

Organic Freshly Brewed - CFO Coffee RM 7.00

Organic Soy Smoothies - Viking Lover, RM 12.90

Sailors' @ Grand Millennium, Penampang

>> Friday, February 11, 2011

Sailors' - Jazz. Food. Chillout. Like what written on the signboard. I heard about this place from my friend and so decided to try it out. Sailors' is located at 1st floor above the famous Krishna's fish head curry house (not exactly above la). I'm not sure what you call this area, Grand Millennium or Taman Millennium but for sure it's the Millennium area, Penampang. Try GoogleMap 'Jalan Pintas Penampang' and you'll pass this area with Chua Kah Seng the famous supermarket there. Hehe... Sailors' is a nice place to hangout with drinks on the house (water, coffee or tea). We ordered baked chicken wings in dozen, grilled NZ lamb shoulder and fish & chips. I like the fish and chips - just nice and big portion. Something's missing in the pasta flavour (served with the grilled NZ lamb shoulder), otherwise it'll be perfect. I love chicken wings but the baked chicken wings were too oily. Hope Sailors' can improve on that. *wink* Definitely coming back.

Main - Sailors' Fish & Chips, RM13

Ngau Chap at Kedai Kopi Lai Heng Baru, Foh Sang

>> Tuesday, February 1, 2011

I'm not sure if there's Lai Heng Lama or not. The kedai kopi is located between Kedai Kopi Yun Heng Baru and Sports Toto. Same row with KFC, Foh Sang. There's always traffic jam in this area and very slow moving traffic. Hard to find parking too. I went to this ngau chap shop few days ago for late breakfast/lunch - brunch. Ngau Chap is Beef Soup Noodles. Ngau Chap is Cantonese language and Ngiu Chap is in Hakka. Ngam kah? Somebody correct me if I'm wrong. 'Ngau' (牛) is lembu, lembu is ox, lembu meat is beef, Ngau is my friend. :p Haha! I don't really know how to evaluate and rate a ngau chap bowl but since this place got many people when I arrived, it should be nice then. My sis and mum like this place too. I ordered ngau chap kon lou (kon lou - dry type noodles) with beef balls soup (you can mix everything in the soup, but I choose beef balls only). I like the beef balls and soup. Both noodle and beef balls portion are more than enough for me. I think this place is halal because they only serve beef noodles and I saw few muslims eat there also.

Plan B, Bangsar Village 1

>> Friday, December 31, 2010

New dining outlet at Bangsar Village 1, next to Starbucks. This was really our Plan B. Our Plan A was to go to another restaurant but we didn't know it's not in Bangsar already. The Breakfast & Brunch and Sides are available only till 6pm. I was curious with the Avocado & Feta Mash thingy (it was RM5 at Sides section). So, I ordered poached eggs with avocado & feta mash instead. The picture seems a lil' bit not so appetizing with the slimy egg and few daun-daun... hehe... But once it's in your mouth... mmm... Delicious and refreshing with the greens. Suitable for those who don't want to have heavy meal. A bit pricey though for that small portion.

Breakfast & Brunch (till 6pm daily)
Poached Eggs on Avocado & Feta Mash, RM18

Sides (till 6pm daily)
Streaky Beef Bacon, RM5

Streaky Beef smelled oh-so-nice and it's only RM5.

 Salads
Chopped Chicken Salad (with blue cheese), RM18

I was dreaming and wanted to go to Plan B again for this salad. The chicken was chopped in small sizes - just nice (some other cafe, they have this big slice chicken meat and too dry). Fresh veges and blue cheese! The portion is just nice for me.

Bumbu Bali, Bandar Puteri Puchong

>> Thursday, December 23, 2010

Bumbu Bali at Bandar Puteri Puchong! Few more hours and it's Christmas!!! Before that, enjoy the pictures from Bumbu Bali. Balinese cuisine with beautiful decoration inside the restaurant and the food servings were quite large to me. The salad itself is already enough to fill in my stomach. The chicken, nasi ayam betutu BBQ chicken dish was abit dry and quite big portion. The soto was okay, nothing much about it. The mojito drink was refreshing with cucumber slices and mint. I like the latte with coconut flavour, nice smell - coconut fragrance but quiet sweet for me (added water to dilute it). Dessert was superb, banana with caramel and crunchy nuts with vanilla ice-cream. Overall, I would say the place is a nice place for gathering/hangout/lepak-place/meetup/paktoh place... Since it is rainy season now, the place was windy when I was there; comfortable with Bali feel. The price is abit pricey for me la... I thought Bali food should be cheap? hmm... Below are the pictures with incomplete name and price of the dish and drinks... I forgot :|  ... fixed :)

Taiwan Walker, Happy Wok

with Lunch Set

 Chicken Chop Lunch Set

 Chicken pot-stew Lunch Set

My story, My Happy Wok (haha) - This place is newly-opened few months ago. Everytime I passed-by it's close. Guess that time they have not enough workers or just started to try the market at Serdang Perdana. Until one fine day, I saw the shop was open and quickly I stopped and ordered 'Zhen Zhu Nai Cha' (Pearl Milky Tea). But the pretty girl said the milky tea with pearl has finished. Next day, went again... again and again until I got my milky tea with pearl!! Yay.. and it's super-cheap for RM3, you'll get a tall-size cup. To get a nice bubble tea in KL is very hard; fans of milky tea should know that. I've tried from Little Taiwan (I think in Avenue K and Midvalley) , it's not nice at all and very expensive around RM7.90 if I'm not mistaken. Sometimes the pearls are hard.

So, here you go. Happy Wok :) I tried the lunch set and was satisfied with the food. The lunch set comes with fruits, drink, and dessert (tong sui). Forgot to mention that even the rice set was served with three types of vege as side dishes and also half of a boiled egg. Kenyang banget! (Very full!) Price range around RM9.90-RM13.90. Worth-the-Value Lunch Set Meal I would say... Their signature food is the Taiwanese Fried Chicken 'ji pai' or 'xian soo ji' Crispy chicken that will make you addicted bite-to-bite. Will post up the pictures soon.

*serve no pork

To avoid disappointment, better call to check if it's open / bubble milk tea available or not.

My friend was craving for crabs so she brought us to 'crab-hunting' with her around Bandar Puteri Puchong. We stumbled upon this shop because of the big sign "Best Crab in Town". There are other shops side by side but we ended up in Mei Keng Recipe Restaurant. I'm not really good with crabs but the dishes served last night were delicious and yummy-licious!!  It's non-halal by the way. Enjoy the pictures! :)
